Is the Men's Movement still alive or barely breathing?

I am a member of a men's group in the Los Angeles area. We are named The Lone Wolf Pack. It has been in existance for 15 yrs.

This group is patterned after other Men's groups that sprung up as a result of the Men's Movement, described and concieved by Robert Bly and Michael Meade, authors such as George Taylor, author of Talking With Our Brothers, Bill Kauth's A Circle of Men and Wayne Liebrnan's Tending the Fire: The Ritual Men's Group.

I personaly know of only one other Men's group in Los Angeles. Some of the elders in the LWP have mentioned a few others that they knew about in other areas of California and the US, but are not sure if they are still in existance. Some of these groups are more about Native American issues than they are about the Men's Movement in general.

Do other men's groups still exist?

Are you in one of them?

Is the Men's Movememt all but dead now?

Please, share with us your knoweldge, experience, and any information about the status of the Men's Movement at this point in history.

cool movie: Peaceful Warrior

Based upon Dan Millman's book, The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, the
movie opens June 23rd...

quite a gift for spiritual adepts and seekers....

moon

NEWS FLASH -- The Peaceful Warrior opens soon in theaters near you!

Hi Everyone - Will Artnz here.

Opening night this month I attended a preview of The Peaceful Warrior
- the film based on Dan Millman's book, Way of the Peaceful Warrior.
In short, it is an excellent film presentation of a wonderful book.
You gotta see Nick Nolte as Dan's surly, snarly mentor!

Please know this film faces a challenge like BLEEP did - theaters
don't think there's an audience. But they believe Box Office. The way
it works is, if it does well in the opening weeks - it's off and
running. If not....

I feel a comrade-ness with the producer's efforts bringing this movie
to theaters - some have spent over 20 years getting this to the big
screen. I think it would be a real loss to have it disappear quickly.
(Not to mention the content of the film, which the world can surely
use...)

SO - in my unabashed sales pitch - if you want to see a wonderful
movie and want to have more like it - go see Peaceful Warrior when it
opens near you....and tell your friends to do the same!

To check out film openings, go to
http://www.thepeacefulwarriormovie.com/main.html
and enter your zip code in the upper right corner.

Reporter Arntz, signing off

i have recently come to know a group of men who it is a pleasure to be around. We have a common reason of association that comes via music. All the men have considerable life experience and are evolved...When we are together..we appreciate each other's company..We create Art...we are not competing with each other..I think this is why we are getting along so well...Comments?

changing dynamics of anger

Looking for suggestions on dealing with anger in a relationship.

My spouse seems to have a more volatile temper, while I tend to internalize and stuff emotions down, perhaps eventually feeling angry several days later, to late to do anything about it, so just keep stuffing it down, hoping it goes away...

Anyway, looking for suggests for changing this dynamic, Dealing better with a spouse when anger comes up, and looking for better ways of absorbing that anger than stuffing it down deep, where it festers. Getting some of these old stagnant feelings cleared out, and moving forward.

thanks

Identify and describe the Men's group you are involved in.

I belong to a Men's group called the Lone Wolf Pack in Los Angeles.

It has been in existance for about 15 yrs. It was started by men in recovery, and the membership has been mosty men in recovery. The size of the group has varried from 5 to 8 men at a time.

This group puts on a yearly (most years) weekend long retreat that is attended by as many as 65 men at a time.

We meet weekly. We meet in a teepee in the back yard of one of the members. We practice several Native American rituals, do differing types of facilitations each week. Pray, talk, laugh, drum, cry, box, check in, process, give support and critisim. We have a code of conduct.

I started going to this groups retreats in 1998, and was honored to join the group and sit in the weekly meetings in September of 2003.

Iron John, Fire in the Belly

I am glad I found this group. I just re-read Iron John and Fire in the Belly. When I first read the book about 13 years ago, it helped. But re-reading recently, it helped in a different way. I learned some things about how I was dealing with my mom and dad. I am now trying to deal with him first. I also notice how I deal with men and women and am now trying to reach out and develop more male friends. This tribe can help.
